《Bärin: Transformation von Identität und Selbstbild》 ist ein Projekt, das die Figur der Ungnyeo aus dem koreanischen Gründungsmythos mit zeitgenössischer Migrationserfahrung verknüpft und dabei die Vorstellung einer fixierten nationalen Identität hinterfragt. Die Künstlerin reflektiert die Spannung zwischen dem „Ich in der Heimat“ und dem „Ich als Fremde“ und stellt die Frage, ob Identität tatsächlich auf einen einzigen Ursprung zurückgeführt werden kann. Der Mythos fungiert dabei als Spiegel eines Selbst, das sich im Prozess kultureller Verschiebung fortwährend neu formiert.
〈Verschwundene Bärin Schnah〉 (2023) ist eine Video-Installation, die den Berliner Bären mit der mythologischen Figur der Ungnyeo verbindet. Vor dem Hintergrund des ehemaligen Bärenzwingers in Berlin entsteht die fiktive Figur „Schnah“ – eine Verschmelzung der letzten dort gehaltenen Bärin Schnute mit dem Namen der Künstlerin. Das Motiv des Verschwindens dient dabei als Ausgangspunkt, um die Realität dieser Figur zugleich sichtbar zu machen und in Frage zu stellen. So wird erfahrbar, wie Identität durch Ort, Narration und den Blick des Anderen konstruiert wird. Der Bär fungiert als vermittelnde Figur zwischen Mensch und Tier, Heimat und Fremde und eröffnet die Möglichkeit, ein fluides Selbst innerhalb multipler Ortsbezüge zu denken.

Bear Woman: Transformation of Identity and Self-Image is a project that connects the figure of Ungnyeo from the Korean founding myth with contemporary experiences of migration, while questioning the notion of a fixed national identity. The artist reflects on the tension between the “self at home” and the “self as a foreigner,” asking whether identity can truly be reduced to a single origin. In this context, myth functions as a mirror for a self that is continuously reconfigured through processes of cultural displacement.
The Vanished Bear Woman Schnah (2023) is a video installation that brings together the Berlin bear and the mythological figure of Ungnyeo. Set against the backdrop of the former bear enclosure in Berlin, the fictional figure “Schnah” emerges as a fusion of Schnute—the last bear kept there—and the artist’s own name. The motif of disappearance serves as a point of departure for both rendering this figure visible and calling its reality into question. In this way, the work explores how identity is constructed through place, narration, and the gaze of the other. The bear becomes a mediating figure between human and animal, home and foreignness, opening up the possibility of imagining a fluid self across multiple sites of belonging.
